Oregon
Wine Board hires CIS to develop a statewide vineyard
database
CIS has accepted a contract with the Oregon
Wine Board to develop OVID, the Oregon Vineyard
Database. OVID is a new vineyard industry organization
created to provide better information and better tools
for managing Oregon's vineyards.
At the most basic level, OVID will be a centralized,
Internet accessible, data management workbook. Using
the system, members will be able to keep track of their
own vineyard history and conditions such as vine phenology,
soil and vine nutrition, and vineyard management practices.
Because the database will be available through the
Internet, this will allow growers, winemakers and researchers
to access and share information on soils, nutrition,
and vineyard practices. The website will not only allow
them to keep their personal management records, but
also perform searches for other vineyards.
Members will also be able to join in online discussion
boards, form online working groups, and monitor reference
vineyards which are similar to their own conditions.
OVID will be a huge online resource for Oregon wine
grape growers and researchers. Using it, the Oregon
viticulture community will be able to access, maintain
and share information about soils, nutrition, and vineyard
practices. With this information, individuals should
be able to address local vineyard management issues
and to better understand the impact of vineyard practices
on fruit and wine quality in Oregon's unique grape growing
environment.

can be viewed at OVID's interim website: http://ovd.us
